J.W. Giles papers, 1920-1978.

The collection consists of papers of J.W. Giles from 1920-1978. Includes correspondence, financial statements, legal documents, minutes, motion pictures, and printed materials. The bulk of the records relate to Giles' work with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 84 (1920-1972) and the Georgia State AFL-CIO (1968-1970). Other materials pertain to Giles' work with the AFL-CIO Atlanta Labor Council Organizing Committee (1957-1958); Georgia Electrical Workers Association (1963-1965, 1971); AFSCME, District 14 (Atlanta, Ga.) (1967-1968); and the U.S. Dept. of Labor, OSHA (1972-1978). Also includes records relating to the Georgia Federation of Labor (1923) and the Atlanta Building Trades Council (1930). The motion pictures contain footage of President Lyndon Johnson's address at the 1967 AFL-CIO Constitutional Convention; a 1968 meeting between Johnson and AFL-CIO President George Meany; and a film produced by the AFL-CIO, Committee on Political Education on voter education.
